Christ’s Example: Love That Transforms
Jesus’ life was the perfect embodiment of love in action. He didn’t just talk about love—He lived it out, showing us how love should look in real life. His love was not passive, but active. It was love that healed, restored, forgave, and sought justice.
In Matthew 5:44-45, Jesus calls His followers to love even their enemies:
“But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:44-45)
Jesus loved His enemies, those who opposed Him, and even those who crucified Him. While He hung on the cross, He prayed for their forgiveness:
“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34)
The love Jesus showed was sacrificial. In John 13:34-35, He commands His disciples to love one another the same way He loved them:
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35)
Jesus’ love for His disciples was the kind of love that served and humbled Himself. When He washed His disciples’ feet, He gave them a powerful example of selfless love and servitude.
Jesus’ love is transformative. It changes us and empowers us to love others, not just in words but in deeds. The apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, describing the qualities of love:
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)
This is the love that Christ exemplified.
